Route On nearly paid off for the Sky Blues, minutes later, when Destiny  Toussaint squared and Dermody looked as thought she was fouled as she tried to get a foot to the effort which was saved.

The Barnet keeper was certainly the busier of the two and she saved a Courtney Sweetman-Kirk shot.

On the half hour mark, City defender Kim Walton was in some distress after a scything tackle that referee deemed to be ok. Barnet attacked and a long range strike hit the bar.

Walton, who was taken to hospital for an xray, was replaced by Nicky Miles and she worked will to set Toussaint up for a cross which just missed the back post with Sweetman-Kirk nches away from a finish.

Another slick move down right channel and the ball was teed up for Callen Barber on the edge of the box to fire over.

It was all Coventry as the half came to a close with a good strike by debutante Hannah George deflected over.

City started the second half brightly and took the lead when Toussaint slipped the ball through to Courtney Sweetman-Kirk who advances and struck the ball home off the keeper.

Helen Dermody had a shot finger tipped round the post for a corner and from the resulting corner, Hannah George was pulled down and a penalty awarded which Helen Dermody cooly dispatched.

Destiny Toussaint became the latest City player to be fouled. Despite, treatment, she was unable to continue and she was replaced by Danni Saulter in the 69th minute.

Unfortunately, the ambulance had to be called again and Toussaint was taken to the same hospital as Walton after a 23 minute delay.

City carried on and weaved some nice patterns on the approach with , shots by Barber and Saulter, going just over.

Sweetman-Kirk went inches wide before a well worked move by Barber down left, saw the ball crossed in and the header go well wide.

Inside the final ten minutes and Dani Saulter chased a through ball with the keeper out of position. However, the Barnet number one recovered  well to save. A near repeat followed when the home keeper went walkabout again and Saulter tried a shot from range which drifted wide as City took a deserved win.

City: Wood, Wilcox, Hollingsworth, Ladd, Lynch, Walton (Mlles 30), Sweetman-Kirk, Dermody, Toussaint (Saulter 69), Barber, George. Subs:  Edwards, Dale,

Elsewhere in the WPL National Division, Aston Villa beat Manchester City 1-0 and Leeds beat Portsmouth 3-0.
