City Ladies Win At Villa

Coventry City Ladies are through to the WPL Quarter-Finals after a 3-1 win at Aston Villa Ladies. 

Paul Cudby's side went Into this WPL League Cup Group 3 match at Boldmere St Michaels with six points from their first two games and played their part in a very even opening forty five minutes.

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk had a couple of long range strikes but there were no goals in the opening forty five minutes.

However, in the second half, City took the lead when a Simpkins deep free kick, was not properly held by the keeper and Destiny Toussaint  nodded into corner of net.

The Sky Blues took the game to Villa and were rewarded with a second goal when Courtney Sweetman-Kirk beat the offside trap and strode through on the keeper before stoking the ball into the corner of the net. 

With five minutes left, City went three goals up thanks to Emily Simpkins now back at the club after a spell in the WSL with Birmingham City, scoring a stunning free kick.

Villa pulled one back seconds from time, but the win gives Coventry nine points with only one game against Derby to play and means that for the second season running the Sky Blues will be in the Quarter-Finals.
