City Ladies Chairman Steps Down

Last updated : 23 December 2014 By Matty Roper

Having been Chairman for 3 years, Bill Newnes has taken the decision to step down as Chairman of the Coventry City Ladies Football Club.

Due to a change in work circumstances and increased commuting time, Newnes feels that he has not got the time to be able to give the club that the role requires.

Since taking on the role in 2011, Newnes has seen the club lift the Birmingham County FA Cup on 3 occasions and win the FA Womens Premier League Southern Division. The club has also developed off the field with the re-integration of the Junior Section and forming a number of new partnerships.

Newnes said “I feel the time has come for me to step down as Chairman and will hand over to Tim whilst the club finds a replacement who can give the time needed to carry the club forward. This has been a very hard decision to make as I have been committed to the club and looking to progress CCLFC to the super league.

It is with a heavy heart for me to step down and I will do what I can when I can to help.

Please pass on my sincerest thanks to everyone at the club who have pulled together on and off the pitch to make the club what it is today. I wish every success to the club and hope to see CCLFC playing super league football sooner rather than later.”

In response to Newnes’ departure the Board issued this statement:

It is with regret that we accept the resignation of Bill as Chairman. Under his stewardship the club has grown both on and off the field. As a voluntary organisation work commitments unfortunately have to come first and we fully understand the decision taken.

The door is always open for Bill at CCLFC when he is in a position to commit some time in whatever capacity to the club.

We would like to thank Bill for the time he has given the club over the past three years as Chairman and before that as Marketing Director.

From all the players, staff and the board we would like to wish Bill and his family all the very best in the future.

The club will now start the process of electing a new Chairman. If anyone feels they have the time and ability to take on the role, or would like to find out more information, they can e-mail the club secretary at secretary@cclfc.org

In the interim Vice Chairman, Tim Kalns, will take on the role as Interim Chairman whilst the club continue to push forward with some exciting new projects and partnerships.
