Coventry City Ladies were beaten 2-1 at Manchester City today in a WPL National Division fixture.

Paul Cudby gave a debut to Hayley Ladd for this game at the Sport City Regional Arena in Manchester, next door to the Etihad City of Manchester Stadium.

The game started being played mostly in the home half but saw no real penetration until the 23rd minute when Danni Saulter latched onto a Courtney Sweetman-Kirk  flick over and beats keeper low into the corner of the net.

Sweetman-Kirk, then played in Saulter in again but this time her shot deflected wide and Sweetman-Kirk lifted a shot over bar.

In the second half, Manchester City levelled through Sarah Buffel before the City coach made three changes bringing on Mole, Formaston and Dale.

However, nine minutes from time, the Sky Blues allowed Man City too much room and Amanda Goodwin was able to score with an uinchallenged header.

City were close to levelling when Helen Dermody struck a 25 yarder against the bar. Substitute Jade Formaston shot but her shot was blocked by Coventry captain Natasha Lynch and  Coventry, who face Aston Villa away in a League Cup tie next Sunday, were sent to a defeat.
