Coventry City Ladies went down to a WPL National Division home defeat to Watford.

Paul Cudby's side struggled with the blustery conditions, against a Watford side third in the table with two wins in their three league games.

The visitors won two corners, the second of which was headed over Emma Beckett.

Watford's third corner produced the opening goal of the game. In the ninth minute, Sarah Wiltshire sent over a flag kick which got past Sue Wood, via the backside of Annabelle Johnson, after the City keeper had initially pushed the ball onto the bar. However, referee Rebecca Scott Mullen was close at hand on and awarded the goal.

An injury meant that the Sky Blues were forced to shuffle their pack when Nat Wilcox was forced off after 15 minutes and replaced by Danni Saulter, moving Destiny Toussant who had a fine game back to the defence.

Helen Dermody had City's best chance with a twenty yard free kick which she sent into the arms of Davey in the Hornets goal.

Three minutes into the second half and there was a second goal for Watford when Natkiel's cross was kicked by Kim Walton off Sue Wood, under pressure from Jo Wilson and into the net.

John Solamon's side continued to dominate proceedings as the City players either over-hit ball or failed to pass to their team mates.

Paul Cudby sent on Cheryl Edwards who scored in last weeks 3-0 League Cup win over Leicester City Women and sent on new signing Erika Mole from Daventry.

Sweetman-Kirk hit the bar before being pulled up for offside before Watford won two corners, the second seeing Wood punch a Beckett shot over for another corner that Walton cleared a yard off her line, as the Sky Blues went down to a defeat.

Other scores in the WPL National Division, Aston Villa 0-4 Cardiff, Manchester City 2-3 Sunderland, Charlton 7-2 Portsmouth, Leeds 2-0 Barnet.

City Ladies Reserves beat Stoke City 3-1 in a WPL League Cup tie.
