City Down A Place

Coventry City are down to sixteenth after the defeat at Queens Park Rangers. Derby to whom City travel on Monday, top the division after yesterday's 1-1 draw at Leicester. Sunderland are second after beating Wolves with Birmingham in third after losing 1-0 at home to Burnley.

At the bottom are Luton Town who lost 2-0 at home to Southampton, with Southend next and Barnsley who lost 5-1 at Ipswich with Danny Niardiello scoring. The Tykes replaced Leeds who beat Plymouth 2-1.

Other results saw Sheffield Wednesday win 2-1 at Cardiff, Palace beat Preston 3-0 and Stoke won 3-1 at West Brom.

In League One,Scunthorpe sit six points clear at the top. Second are Bristol City who were held 0-0 by Swansea. Nottingham Forest are third despite losing 1-0 at Millwall. Andy Morrell scored for the winner for Blackpool in a 3-2 won over Tranmere. Craig Reid was a sub for Cheltenham in a 2-0 win at Brentford.

Trevor Benjamin scored for Walsall in a 2-1 win at Torquay.

In the Conference North, Nuneaton Borough won 3-1 at Scarborough, Bedworth won 2-1 at Rushall Olympic with goals from Tom Starkey and Jey Martin but Rugby Town lost 3-2 at Gloucester City.

Jamie Towers scored twice for MFA Leaders Leamington in a 4-0 win over Cradley Town. Racing Club Warwick increased their chances of survival with a 4-3 win over Westfields whilst Stratford Town were held 1-1 at home by Oldbury.

Coventry Sphinx are now nine points clear of the Midland Combination Premier Division after a 4-1 win against bottom side Alveston. Craig Martin his a hat-trick with youngster Heywood also on the scoresheet. Coventry Copsewood who face Sphinx at home on Monday night lost 3-1 at Allard Way in the cross town derby to Massey Ferguson. Elsewhere, Southam won 2-0 at Meir with Nuneaton Griff drawing 2-2 with Heath Hayes.

Elsewhere,Leamington Hibernian lost 5-1 at Northfield but Stockingford beat Ettington 5-0 at home. Coventry Sphinx Reserves drew 1-1 with Worcester City and Warwick Town drew 0-0 with Continental Star Reserves.
