Coventry City manager Steven Pressley admitting to being execeptionally proud of his players after the 5-4 victory over Bristol City.

“Once again I am exceptionally proud of my players,” said Pressley to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole.

“The intensity and standard of football in the first half were absolutely outstanding – we never allowed Bristol to get any control of the game – and despite conceding four in the second I actually don’t think we played that badly.

"We obviously conceded a couple of disappointing goals but we seem to be carrying no luck at all at the moment and at least a couple of their goals proved that.

“It would have been dead easy to go under, feel sorry for ourselves, when they pulled it back to 3-3 but we didn’t – we continued to show the unity and spirit that I keep talking about, that I think has been so evident in all our three performances this season.

“In my opinion we thoroughly deserved to win the first two games games and today I thought we got what we deserved from what was a wonderful game of football.”

Pressley again refused to be lured into any rallying cry to the stayaway fans, repeating his midweek insistence that he has: “Total sympathy for their predicament.

“Nobody appreciates more than me what they’ve been through in the last few months but I have no influence over where we play – that’s not my remit.

“I was brought in with a long-term strategy of changing the culture at this club, developing our young players and producing an exciting brand of football.

"All that and I and the players can do is provide them with some hope, produce those level of performances and hopefully make our supporters proud of us.

“We train at those levels on a daily basis and there’s a real buy-in from my players just now – they are enjoying the pressures that we put on them and have reacted in such a positive manner.

“Yes, there’s a touch of naivety at times but in terms of effort you won’t see much better. They were exceptional to a man.”
