Coventry City manager  Chris Coleman says he is pleased with the way his players looked after themselves during the close season.

He is particularly pleased with the progress of those players who ended last season carrying injuries.

He spoke of David Bell and Stephen Wright, “The boys who were injured at the end of last season are doing great,” he said. Belly looks good and sharp, as does Stephen Wright, so, touch wood they don’t have any recurring problems. Leon McKenzie is doing really well. He has started light running so he is ahead of schedule, so at the minute the squad is looking pretty good.”

Coleman also praised the rest of the squad, “Fair play to the lads, it looks as if the players have stuck to their summer programs. We have got stuck straight into the physical work and they have been working very hard. It has been very difficult because of the heat but I have been very pleased with what I have seen.”

The 'City boss revealed that two American players were training with the squad.” We have got a goalkeeper and a defender through Tony Coton who has a good connection with us. They are having a look at us and we are having a look at them until next week."

Coleman continued,“They have done OK. They are straight out of college in America where they are on the verge of signing for half a dozen MLS clubs but they want to play in Europe. They are with us for a week and then they will probably move on.”

Meanwhile former 'City skipper, Scott  Dann has said that Chris Coleman should be allowed to use the money generated from his transfer to Birmingham City to reinvest in new players.

Dann said, “I think he deserves the money to reinvest in the team and I am sure Coventry will be challenging to get back to the Premier League if he is“I really enjoyed working with Chris Coleman who I feel has really brought me on as a player in the last 18 months and I am sure he is doing the same for the other players at the club."

Dann thought that,“Since he (Coleman) has been at the club he hasn’t been given a great deal of money but if the club want to keep moving forward and progressing he needs the help from the owners to attract better players and improve the team.”
