City At Northampton Latest

Welcome to Covsupport News Service's coverage's of Coventry City's friendly tonight at Northampton Town.

Keiren Westwood is still injured so Konstantopolous starts the tonight's game. Academy 'keeper Michael Quirke is on the bench.

It is pouring with rain at Northampton this evening. This game is being played for the Jackson Grundy Cup and will go to penalties if the score is level at the end of ninety minute. (Jackson Grundy, Estate Agents are the main sponsors of Northampton Town FC.

Just before kick off, there are far more Coventry City supporters than Cobblers fans.

Northampton Town: Dunn, Jackman, Gutteridge, Hinton (capt.), Osman, Guinan, Akinfenwa, Holt, Dyer, Curtis, McCready. Subs:Rodgers, Beckwith, Walker, McKay, Harris, Benjamin, Jacobs.

Coventry City Team: Konstantopolous, Wright, Turner, Fox, Cain, Clarke, Doyle, Best, Morrison, Osbourne, Gunnarsson. Subs: Hall McPake, Eastwood, Walker, Quirke, Jeffers.

'City have started the better of the two teams and have had most of the early play against a Northampton side without the injured Liam Davis.

'City fans are singing "Get the chequebook out" and "Ranson splash the cash".

8 minutes.Konstantopolous flaps at a Northampton cross, but fortunately for him and 'City, Ben Turner rescues the situation.

11 minutes. A Best cross goes well wide.

The 'City defenders seem to be afraid to pass back to Konstantopolous.

15 minutes. Osman has a shot, but flies well over the bar.

18 minutes.Konstantopolous gets an ironic cheer from the 'City fans as he gets down to his right to save from Dyer.

26 minutes. Ashley Cain, playing on the left, cut across the Northampton defence, but Dunn, the Northampton. 'keeper, saves with his feet, but concedes a corner. The corner is cleared by the Northampton defence.

Neither side is able to find any fluidity in their play

30 minutes. Best has a shot but it goes into the side netting.

Northampton are finding it too easy to bypass the 'City midfield.

31 minutes, Gunnarsson gets into a shooting position but he leans back and fires over the bar.

33 minutes. Cain has a tellingcross into the Northampton box, but is put out for a corner.
The corner is taken long and low and Dunn grabs the ball and wallops it straight up the other end.

37 minutes. Guinan has a shot on the turn, but it goes straight at Konstantopolous.

39 minutes. Doyle unleashes a shot from a good Osbourne cross, but shoots over the bar.

41 minutes.Gunnarsson has a shot deflected over by a Northampton defender. Nothing comes of the corner.

Second Half gets under way. 'City are attacking the end neares to their fans. No changes have been made during the break.

Kevin Thornton is in the crowd watching the game.

51 minutes. GOAL.
Leon Best has a low drive from the edge of the area which beats Dunn in the Northampton goal. Northampton 0 Coventry City 1

54 minutes.Ashley Cain has a run down the left, attacks the goal and gets in drivewhich Dunn can only fumble at. The Cobblers defence help out their 'keeper and clear the ball.

58 minutes, Best crosses in from the left. The ball looks to have been handled by a Northampton defender, but no penalty is awarded.

60 minutes. 'City win a corner. The ball is delivered deep by Fox to the far post where Ben Turner is waiting to hit a powerful header that crashes onto the bar.

68 minutes. Substitution. McPake is on for Turner. Walker on for Gunnarsson.

70, Fox wins a corner.

71 minutes. Best is taken off to good applause, he is replaced by Freddy Eastwood. Inevitably, he is greeted with chants of, "Where's your rubbish gone?" from the 'City fans.

75 minutes. Northampton win a rare corner, but the 'City defence clear the ball quickly and send it up the other end and win a corner of their own. Fox takes the corner but over hits it and doesn't trouble the Northampton defence at all.

78 minutes. Substitution. Jeffers comes on in place of Morrison.

82 minutes. Substitution. Hall is on in place of Osbourne.

83 minutes. Goal.
The goal followsanother flap by Konstantopolous. The ball is cleared by Fox, but goes staight to McKay, who volleys in .
