CCFPA Tie Up Goater

Last updated : 12 February 2015 By CCFPA

A rare visitor to the Ricoh Arena, Coventry City Former Players Association member Shaun Goater was spotted at the Sky Blues home draw with Scunthorpe United.

Shaun was watching the game for his current employers Doncaster Rovers and was very pleased to be back in Coventry. Since Shaun was based in Bermuda when we signed him up originally CCFPA committee man Bob Eales took the opportunity to present Shaun with offical CCFPA tie*

In his playing days Shaun was a dashing, prolific and well travelled forward (starting as a teenager at Old Trafford in 1988) then appearing from 1989 for Rotherham United, Notts County and Bristol City before hitting the headlines with Manchester City (the other sky blues) where, between 1998 and 2003 in two sessions, he scored 103 times in his 212 games!

Shaun had a fairly brief loan spell with the Sky Blues under (CCFPA colleague) Micky Adams at the back end of the 2004-05 season and made six appearances including two as sub before finishing his British career at Southend United (where he mentored a future Sky Blue Freddy Eastwood).

On leaving Southend he returned to his roots and continued to play in his home nation for Bermuda Hogges (where he was also a director) and North Village Rams only hanging up his boots in 2010 age 40 (the year CCFPA signed him up). In Bermuda, Shaun has been heavily involved in promoting football for young people and developed important business interests in telecommunications and transport. Most recently, Shaun has returned to the UK being drafted in by British clubs like St Johnstone and Doncaster Rovers to sharpen the scoring prowess of their strike force.

Awarded an MBE for his services to football in his homeland of Bermuda, ‘the Goat’ scored an incredible 32 times for his country in 36 internationals between 1987-2004, for whom he won 36 Full Caps.
