Coventry City's combative midfielder Lee Carsley returned to his old club Everton at the weekend to play in Jamie Carragher's testimonial game.

The veteran 36 year old, Birmingham born player re-signed for Coventry City during the summer break after being released by Birmingham City.

Carsley originally signed for Coventry in 2000 from Blackburn Rovers, but left in 2002 to join Everton, where he stayed for six years.

Carsley told Evertoniantv: "I will always look back with great affection and I gave Everton the best years of my career and had some great times here. It was good to be back amongst the lads and to see all the old faces."

"I got asked a few weeks ago if i would be interested in playing, I had great times here and I have a lot of friendships here as well. It's hard getting your head round it when you are a first team player to be asked to play in a friendly like that."
