Carey Not Returning For The Easy Life

Louis Carey who moved back to Bristol City earlier this week, has bit back at comments that he could not hack it in the Championship and is only returning to Ashton Gate for an easy life.

He said to the CET: "I have spoken to my family about the fact some people will say I lack ambition in taking a step down, particularly as I was in the Coventry team week in, week out.

"I was playing in better stadiums in front of bigger crowds and it was in a division where my Bristol City team-mates all aspired to be. There was certainly nothing for me to moan about.

"It was about a month and a half into the move that I began feeling I wasn't enjoying it as much as I should have been.

"I'd lived in Bristol for so long and played for the club I supported as a kid and it isn't until you make that initial step away that you realise what you had and how much you miss it.

"I was enjoying the games and got on fine with everyone at Coventry but it wasn't right for me and that is when I decided to go and see Peter Reid.

"I went to see Peter just a couple of days before he left the club and I told him I was a bit unsettled and was concerned it might affect my performances.

"Even though I had a flat up there, I said I was considering commuting from Bristol and he said 'Give it a try'.

"Trouble was, the journeys up were taking two hours, possibly more sometimes.

"After Peter had left, Adrian Heath took temporary charge and he told me to sit tight until a new manager came in, and when Micky arrived, it was soon clear he had been informed of my situation.

"He told me he didn't want anyone who wasn't happy and committed to the club, and it went from there."
