Butterworth Quits

Former Coventry City defender Ian Butterworth has quit Norwich City.

Butterworth who came through City's Academy ranks before being sold to Nottingham Forest along with Stuart Pearce, had two games in charge of Norwich after being put in tempoarily charge following the sacking of Bryan Gunn.

However, today, he quit following the appointment of former Colchester boss Paul Lambert.

Rikki Bains has signed for Darlington. He joined Accrington Stanley after being released by City in 2006. There, he was loaned to Leek Town and Tamworth before he signed for Macclesfield.

The defender has been given the number 21 shirt at Darlington after impressing in a trial.

Jonnie Jackson has signed a three year deal at Notts County. Jackson was at Colchester United for two seasons but decided that his future lay elsewhere.

The midfielder, who was popular during his spell at Highfield Road, teams up with former Sky Blues Kasper Schmichel and Lee Hughes at Meadow Lane and was in the team that face Chesterfield tonight.

County boss Ian McParland said: "He's played in the Premier League and the Championship which says a lot about his ability.

"He was captain of Coventry for a bit when he was on loan there. He's a good signing for us.
