Coventry City striker Leon Best has said that he wants more international experience.

Best featured for Ireland in a friendly against Nigeria and in a World Cup Qualifier against Bulgaria and wants more experience.

"The call-up came right out of the blue for me and personally, given the way I played last season, I didn't think I deserved it," said Best to the CT.

"I only started 15 or 16 games for Coventry and only scored five goals but I spoke to the Ireland coach Mr Trapattoni and he said he had watched me play a few games and must have been happy.

"He watched me against Chelsea and Blackburn and it was a godsend him calling me up to have the experience and playing with players in the squad, which was unbelievable. I am delighted to be back in the Ireland set-up and hopefully I can stay in it.

"I was in an under-21 squad the season Iain Dowie was here and I played a game and didn't hear anything again. I didn't know he was watching me in those games and that's maybe a little lesson that you never know who is watching you.

"But it was great to play 90 minutes in the Nigeria friendly and then 20 minutes in the World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria. We are second in the group with three games left.

"I think we play Italy next in September or October, which will be a massive one, but I am just over the moon to be in the set-up again and it would be a dream come true to go to the World Cup in South Africa.

"I was speaking to Chris Coleman about playing with better players and the fact that they make you raise your game automatically and you see and do things a lot simpler.

"I just can't wait for another call-up to play with them again. But I can't wait for the season to start again with Coventry because it has opened my eyes a bit more.

"And I would like to back it up now with a good season at Coventry because Trapattoni must have seen something in me to give me a call. It was a buzz playing and it gives you a confidence at club level as well.

"There have been loads of ups and downs for me at Coventry. I had my boo-boys on me but the fans are back in my corner and hopefully I can have a good season."
