Adam Barton has cited non-footballing reasons as to why he was let go by Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Barton who was released by City and has now signed a new two year deal with Portsmouth, said:  “It was strange how Tony Mowbray played me for basically every single game he was there and even put me in a position to try to get me on the ball more – then let me go.

"What started to be a bad season at Coventry turned out to be one that was good for me. In the end I was 50/50 about whether I would be given a new contract.

“But I think there were other reasons as well rather than just the footballing side of things, which I can’t really go into.”
