Baker Training With City U23's

Carl Baker is currently training with Coventry City U23's.

The former club captain is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury and in a bid to get match fit and find a new club, be that the Sky Blues or someone else, Baker is using the facilities at Ryton to help facilitate that.

Baker told the Coventry Telegraph: “I’m doing pretty well, to be fair.

"I have been back full training for the last couple of weeks now, doing work with the fitness coach and physio at Coventry and been doing really tough sessions sprinting, twisting and turning and a little mini-pre-season really.

“So it’s been really good and then I trained with the Under-23s on Monday and did a little session with them, which was obviously more ball work with the lads and I felt really good to be honest.

“I’m still not 100 per cent but it’s as good as it has felt for the last two years, because I have had this problem for the last couple of years and played through it. So to be like it is and knowing that it’s not getting any worse, I’m absolutely buzzing and just want to be back playing.

“Obviously I have got to keep working hard and hopefully the injury keeps reacting well and I can keep progressing and kicking on, but I’m certainly not that far way now, I think anyway.

“I’ve not trained with the first team as yet but I don’t think I’m that far off it because I have been doing a load of box-to-box runs and stuff, and I feel quite good to be honest. So I have just got to see what happens now, see what the club want to do and go from there.

“It’s still a little bit painful but it’s not affecting my training, and we’re doing tough sessions now so as long as it stays like that then I will be happy.

“I won’t know until I do a proper session with the lads or play a game how it will be, so I think in my head that’s my next step.

“I need, ideally, to play a game or a tough and intense football based session and hopefully I’ll react well to that and get through that. And then I can hopefully kick on and get back playing.

“If I do a tough session or play an Under-23s game and it’s too sore then obviously I will have to deal with things from there but I’d just like to give it a go and see how it is.”

“I’m in every day at the minute and the gaffer is obviously there. I haven’t really spoken to him about a deal or signing back but I am training on the pitch next to the first team lads so he sees me and he knows that I’m running and can see the sessions I am doing.

“He knows I’m training with the 23s and but he hasn’t spoken about a deal yet."
