THE AUCTION
Pete Walden checks out the Highfield Road Sell Off

It was always going to be a somewhat poignant day for some City fans, going to Highfield Road (for the very last time?) to see parts of our 'second home' being put under the hammer.

All told, there were probably 3-400 people who came and went during the course of the near 7 hour sale. Many came along as interested spectators, others were serious memorabilia collectors.

It was a shame that so many different lots had to be withdrawn from the catalogue for one reason or another (we suspect that many had in fact been stolen or badly damaged). The omission of these lots was compensated to a degree by the addition of a further new 50-odd lots, all of which had been on view yesterday at the ground.

The general impression by those present today was that inflated prices were being paid for a lot of the items. For example, signed pictures of some of the older players- which on eBay would expect to fetch approx £20.00 - were going for around £80.00.

Excitement was fairly minimal, but the thousand pound barrier was breached on a few occasions, most notably when the home team dug-out was being fought for.

All in all, an interesting day, but we left wondering how much of what was sold today will end up on a certain internet auction site in the coming weeks...
