Andy Marshall - The Matchday Guest

Last updated : 15 August 2017 By CCFPA

CCFPA is pleased to announce that, after a short delay in making it to the Ricoh, our ‘special guest’ for Saturday’s League One clash with Newport County will be popular former Sky Blue goalkeeper Andy Marshall.  Andy sady had to withdraw late in the day from joining us at the recent evening Carabao cup tie against Blackburn Rovers but had not wanted to waste any more time in fulfilling his ‘special guest’ date with CCFPA and the Sky Blues.  Table topping Sky Blues have made a great start to the season and a third straight League win achieved against the Exiles would consolidate the early momentum being built by Mark Robins’ men.

Andy & Billy Bell at Lady Gs

Born in Bury on 14th April 1975, Andy has been back to the Ricoh a number of times in recent years as a CCFPA ‘special guest’. Coventry City Player of the Season in 2006-07 Andy started out with Norwich City and built his professional career with the likes of Bournemouth, Ipswich, Gillingham and Wolves before impressing with Millwall sufficiently to attract the attentions of CCFC.

An England U18 and U21 International, Andy was a popular member of the Sky Blues’ teams between 2006-09 and made 62 first team appearances between the sticks for CCFC before moving to rivals Aston Villa in August 2009 (via a trial with QPR). In 2013-14 he returned to provide goalkeeping cover at Millwall. However, despite   deciding to hang up his boots in early 2014 and concentrate on his successful directorship of the Sells Goalkeeping Academy, he has since undertaken goalkeeping coaching duties at former club Aston Villa and was briefly their caretaker manager alongside Scott Marshall in 2015.

Being a Saturday fixture Andy will have the chance to visit the club’s youngest supporters and their families in the Family Zone under the stands before the game with a current CCFC squad member before both touring the supporters’ lounges to meet the fans.Look out too for Andy in the company of CCFPA’s Billy Bell after the game in the G-Casino (now back again in their usual spot on the stage of Lady Gs) or, if you can’t make the game, you can tune in to BBC CWR and listen to him giving his views as he assists the radio station’s live matchday commentary team from the Press box.

We will do our best to make sure Andy has a great matchday experience with CCFPA and hope the Sky Blues can make his visit extra special with victory and a table topping celebration!
