A Hard Three Points - Dawson

Scunthorpe United care-taker manager Andy Dawson felt that it was a hard three points that his side took from a 2-1 win at Coventry City.

“I think it was a very hard-fought three points,” Dawson told The Iron PlayerHD.

“Every game between now and the end of the season should be hard-fought and I do think that we deserved to win it.

"We’ve come away from home, had thirteen attempts on goal, scoring two from four on target.

"We’ve also hit the bar and with a bit better decision making in the first half, we could have been a little bit more comfortable.

“Coventry are a fantastic side and (before today) they’ve only lost once here (at the Ricoh Arena) all season.

"Credit to them – we knew they’d change their front four and we knew how bright the likes of Armstrong, Murphy and Maddison are. We had to be at our best defensively.

“We spoke about good sides winning back-to-back games and the boys have been outstanding in both games.

“The really pleasing part about it was that the goals came from work we did on the training ground yesterday. Tom Hopper’s goal was a second phase set piece and Murray Wallace’s was a training ground plan and they’re the sort of things that allow you to win tight games.

“They’re the small margins and fair play to Murray and to Tom for getting into the positions we asked them to and we got the rewards for it today.

“Luke pulled off a save that has determined the flow of the second half.

“The save that he made could, and probably did, change the momentum of the game. We got the second goal and after that point we were probably at our best. We controlled possession of the ball, moved them about the pitch and the only disappointment thing is that we gave them an opportunity from the penalty spot.

“I’m sure once we’ve had chance to enjoy this evening and tomorrow, myself and Andy will be back on the case at some stage tomorrow to prepare for Doncaster next weekend.”
