It Makes You Proud To Come From Cov

It makes you proud to come from Coventry if this is the talent this city is producing was said by many as the latest band to come out of our historic city - Ruder Than You launched their new EP tonight at EGO Rocks in Coventry.

The evening opened with a set from Coventry talent Leitita George who showed why her voice went down so well on The Voice with an excellent set.  

Then it was down to the main act and Ruder Than U who were the show band in the hit play Three Minute Heroes, which ran to packed audiences at The Belgrade Theatre last year,  took to the stage and soon had the place jumping. 

The nine piece band, which has been mentored by drummer Charles Aitch Bembridge of The Selecter, started with Gangsters and performed a superb medley of hits including Do Nothing, Nite Klub, Hands Off, She's Mine, Too Much Too Young, Free Nelson Mandela, Missing Words with Selecter founder Neol Davies. I Shot The Sheriff and Three Minute Hero with as much energy and vigour as the original artists. 

That Coventry classic Concrete Jungle started the second half of the set with It Doesn't Make It Alright, dedicated to Pete "Mr Coventry" Chambers, Ghost Town, a rather decent version of The Jam's Town Called Malice, Bob Marley's Three Little BIrds, On My Radio with Noel Davies and Too Much Pressure before finishing with Enjoy Yourself. 

Then Lynval Golding of The Specials took to the stage to perform Monkey Man and A Message To You Rudy. 

The new songs including Ruder Than U, Swept Under The Rug, I'm In Trouble and superb Sent To Coventry, written by members of this talented band went down well with an appreciative audience and Lynval Golding who said that he was proud to have appeared with the next generation of bands coming out of which after The Specials and The Selecter has opened the door.

The EP Phat Cat’, is released on iTunes today and is available on CD for £5.
