Premier Trophy presented to Sutton Coldfield
|
The premier league trophy was presented by the league chairman, Mark Evans to the Sutton Coldfield captain, Graham Clark. Thanks to Nuneaton CC for hosting this event and congratulations to Sutton Coldfield champions of the Warwickshire cricket league as they make their way back into the Birmingham and District Cricket League. The Sutton side with an average age of only 19 has taken the Warwickshire League by storm this year scoring 426 points, Although they have some star player such as Lee Thomason with nearly 1000 runs and Dan Childs with just short of 60 wickets, their success is due to several strong team performances. The Warwickshire league wishes them the best of luck in 2014 . Sutton obtained a winning draw on the day in a 36 over match , Klapper 84, to go through the season undefeated. Sutton second XI clinch runners up in their division today beating Nuneaton seconds.
Results from around the League
A few matches have been abandoned due to overnight rain however a lot of the program has survived.
At the bottom of the premier Fillongley saved themselves at the expense of Coleshill by hanging on for the draw at home to Handsworth. Dawkins made 173 as the home sides bowling attack was put to the sword, but the bonus points to add to 2 match points for the draw saw Fillongley to 6 for the match. Crucially in the tie break between the 2 side Fillongley had the better of the results and so are above Coleshill.
Hampton and Solihull put in an early bid to win division1 1sts when they overcame Marston Green by 7 wickets after Marston Green made 79. This meant Solihull Blossemfiled needed 15 points from a tricky trip to Studley CC. Studley also requiring maximum points to be third which as long as Aston Manor did not get relegated would leave them in a promotion spot. In a match going down to the wire Studley held on for a losing draw but Solihull Blossemfield scored exactly the 15 points needed. As it transpired Aston Manor lost and look like coming down to the Warwickshire league, so 3rd would not have been good enough for Studley anyway.
Division 1 seconds went down to the wire, with Rugby coming from 4th place to take second. Massey Fergusson and Marston Green met in the clash of the day with the home side knocking off the 196 needed to win for 4 wickets, Mirza 66 not out, leaving the door open for anyone of three clubs to capture 2nd. Lyndworth 3rd playing Old Eds 5th shared the points for a draw with Lyndworth having the better of the day, but that allowed Rugby who beat bottom but one Walsall WMF to claim the second spot with a 24 point win.
Similarly in an early result Pickwick defeating Solihull Municipal however this proved not to be enough as Standard cruised to a win a Old Eds and secured the division 2 crown. In division 2 seconds Knowle and Dorridge did not have the best of a draw at Amblesiode, however the 10 points was enough to guarantee top spot with Solihull Municipal second
Division 3 1st had potential twists and turns all day. First vs third met at Weoley Hill and the home side had by far the better running out with a winning draw. At one point of the day a win would have seen Weoley Hill second when Corley lost managing only 3 points at home to Nether Whitacre and Aston and Hunningham did not play. As it was it was a day of no change with Aston remaining second behind champions Rowlands. In the second XI the division was decided before a ball was bowled when Aston and Hunnigham called off the second vs third match leaving Wishaw champions and Hunningham second
