Premier Trophy Presented to Kings Heath |
Kings Heath premier division champions 2012 received the trophy on the field after their match with Olton and West Warwick. Kings Heath with 252 for 9 before tea in a first innings which swung their way with an entertaining 118 from J Pemberton in exactly 2 hours at the crease , before he holed out on the boundary. S Karim then pulled it back ending with 5 for 62. Olton and West Warwicks never quite let the champions get away and a score which threaten at 199 for 4 after 40 overs to be 300 plus ended at 252 for 9 and honours even at tea.
The Olton reply started with a solid if somewhat slow start with 60 for the first wicket, but after acceleration with 54 for S Ceillam, and keeping wickets in hand at drinks with 90 for 1 and then 10 overs later still only 2 done need 110 to win it looked on. However Phil Jefferies leading from the front took 5 wickets for 74 from his 14 overs and as the wickets fell at regular intervals with a rising run rate Olton batted out the last over for a creditable draw at 232 for 9
With the potential for 3 down the other end of the table was tense, with and Four Oaks Saints did all they could by bowling Kenilworth all out for 149 to win by 13 runs. Bablake OB started the day 6th just in the top half but had a disaster at Nuneaton who won handsomely so ensuring their own safety and has results unfolded, Highway picked up 20 points at Fillongley, and Bedworth 20 points against Handsworth which left Bablake 3rd from bottom and more than likely relegated as again there are 2 Warwickshire sides in the bottom 4 of the Birmingham League. Was the 316 the best score in the WCOL this week or the 164 the highest by a batsmen?. Answer no , see below
Division 2 Decided
Division 2 went down to the final day. In the end it was as you were at the start of play when Lyndworth claimed 4 vital batting points to take themselves beyond the reach of Hampton and Solihull, even though they did eventually lose to a standard side who scored 311 themselves. Hampton and Solihull did everything they could to catch Lyndworth on a batsman's paradise of a pitch at Castle Bromwich. Castle Bromwich toiled in the field for 50 overs seeing Solihull put up 316 for just 2, James scoring 164 of these himself. The pitch was equally good however in the second innings and although chasing down 317 to win was not on Castle Bromwich, reached a merit worthy 199 for 5 leaving the match drawn. Only 24 points would have given Hampton a chance of the title but the points achieved from the draw did ensure runners up place
