In a clash which decided who was top of the Premier League this week Olton and WW visited Streetly. The visitors lost the toss and were inserted, a decision which may have looked flawed as Wajid Hussain and Liam Gately put on 55 for the first wicket, before Laim was caught by Russ Guy off Waqas Ahmed.
After Gareth Simpson quickly followed run out, Wajid and Nathan Docker steadied the ship taking the score past the hundred mark , Wajid reaching his half century. Wickets then began to fall regularly with Shaun Findley 4 for 57, in partnership with Andy Lloyd 4 for 34, restricting the visitors to 172 all out at the end of over 47.
Streetly must have thought the game was pretty near over at that point as 172 is below par in the premier league this season, however the Olton bowlers had other thoughts. After tea, Jamie Hawkins, and Steven Du Cros, ably aid by all rounder Wajid Hussain reduced the Streetly top order to 70 for 5, noe of the top five reaching 20.
It came down to Steve Eastham batting 7 to rescue Streetly and in partnerships or 69 and 24 with Neil Curtis and Ben Griffith respectively he got Streetly to 163 before being 7th out. Streetly reached their target 8 down to take 20 points to Oltons 5. This ensures Streetly are top whilst Olton go 4th.
Bablake winners at home to struggling Atherstone with J Debozzer 5 for 25 helping them defend 182 all out, went second, and Fillongley enter the top three with a 17 point winning draw in a rain affected affair at Nuneaton.
Elsewhere In the WCL this week, division 4, saw RMCC starting bottom but one of the table picking up their first win of the season and moving to mid table as Kaisar Nasrullah 208 not out, became the first double centurion in the WCL this year. Due to the restructuring of the league in 2012 when the top 4 divisions will become 12 clubs each, division 4 is a key division this year, with probably the top 4 going into the higher band (depending on promotions and relegation from the Birmingham league). Ward End Unity’s, winning draw at Oakfield and Five Ways who demolished Hunningham by 10 wickets lead the way with Collycroft 3rd. If the promotion was decided today, one third of the way thru the season then Erdington Court would be the fourth team but there is a long way to go and of course with potential 4 up no one is out of it.
Staying in the lower divisions, Stockingford 184 all out this week proved to be under par. Having been put in Stocking ford made steady progress before tea to their 184 with J Denis 75, C Patel 60 making the significant contributions. Tight bowling from J Tracey 4 - 22, M Wright 3 – 42 however stopped the innings getting away. After tea Wythall with N Tongue 74 not out, S Earles 55 ensured the visitors took the points, in this case 20 and Stockingford suffered their first defeat of the season. This gave Aston the opportunity to join them at the top which they took with a 24 pointer against Thimblemill. Both Stockingford and Aston have 120 points from 6
