Bank holiday Monday proved a disappointment for local cricket with the program washed out due to the weather. However on the Saturday a full league program was completed. Streetly and Bedworth maintain the pace at the top , both 24 points winners on the day beating Highway and Ansley respectively. Streetly had there bowling attack of Vaughan 4 for 40 and Lebourne 4 for 27 to thank as they defended a modest 170 all out to come home by 49 runs. Bedworth and Ansley the two promoted clubs are seeing differing fortunes at the top level with Bewdworth’s 3rd win from 4 being at the expense of Ansley’s 3rd defeat. Again it was a bowling performance which tipped the scales, Bedworth’s Ryan Oldham with 6 for 49 in Ansley 107 all out response to Bedworth’s 214 for 7.

In Division 1, leaders Four Oaks Saints and 2nd placed Stockton have near identical records and both achieved similar 20 point wins this week. Four Oaks have Hamza Nadeem 5 for 41 in their ranks this year as they make a push for premier league cricket, and he helped knock over Offchurch for 119 before the cricket subcommittee chairman hit a credible 51 to all ow Four Oaks Saints to reach their target with the loss of just 4 wickets. At Stockton. Warwick’s 167 for 8 held together by Dyers 73 was below par and Stoickton reached their target with 4 wickets left.

Division 2 see three teams is the early mix, all with 3 wins from the first 4. Newly promoted Marston Green lead the way, too strong for bottom club Aston Unity, in a 7 wicket home victory. Standard followed up their 354 runs last week with a mere 280 for 7 this week as they made the short trip to Massey Fergusson, Andy Jones the pick of the batsmen with 76. Rugby meanwhile where entertaining Castle Bromwich and with two centurions Robards 131 and Ewer 105 they took the game away from Castle Bromwich before the tea interval. Ewer then completed the rare feat of 5 for and 100 in the same match as he took 5 for 20, as Rugby dominated proceeding after the tea interval too to be winners by 210 runs. Saturday saw Adnan 114 no and Tariq 108 no put on a 235 runs partnership for Aston in their second XI clash against Newdigate whilst their first XI with 272 for 7 were also on the winning trail at Wythall. Walmley in this division lost a high scoring match with Leamington Khalsa chasing down 237 to take the points inflicting Walmley’s first loss and setting up a 3 way for 2nd place. Wilnecote joining Aston and Walmley on 72 points piece. Stockingford however lead the way, keeping a 100% winning record having dropped only 4 points this season

Division 4 this season could see the top 4 promoted when division 3 expands to 12 teams for 2012. Ward End Unity lead the way with 3 straight 24 point wins after their opening day fixture was one of several in the WCL which was lost to rain. H Ahmed 6 For 33 led the way for them this week as they beat Five Ways, but this 6 for was not enough to get on the best bowling honours board this week as there is the first 8 for this season in the league. Ward End Unity’s win took them top as the overtook their rivals on the day. Five Ways curiosity 2 wins and a winning draw in the first 3 weeks of the season remain 2nd, with Collycroft, also big winners on the day going third.

Division 3 see near perfect Wishaw, 3 wins and a winning draw top, this week with a 5 wicket win at Bournville, swapping places with a Hampton and Solihull side who lost their unbeaten record at Rowlands, who now go 4th just behind Knowle and Dorridge 3rds. K&D with yet another 6 for bowler (I Swindell 6-16 were too strong for Ambleside romping home to a 9 wicket victory.

Division 6 sees the 3rd XI from another big club doing well as Nuneaton 3rds with 88 points leads Bedworth 3rds and Olton and WW 3rds. Nuneaton were top scorers in the division this week with 317 for 8, beating Four Oaks Saints who made a creditable 269 in reply. 317 however was not quite the top score in the WCL this week as Standard 4ths made 324 for 4 declared off just 42 overs against Bablake in division 6 2nds. Such was the quality of the batting in the WCL this week Wayne Littlewood’s 127 in this match did not make the top 3.

Last word and a creditable mention goes to Ratiesh Venugopal and Ken Hazel who put on an unbroken third wicket stand of 141 for Small Heath BC to take their club to the top of the single teams league to leap frog their opponents on the day Walsall WMF 3rds and Highway 3rds (losers at Attleborough).
