Warwickshire County Cricket Club were in big trouble on the second day of their County Championship game with Durham at Edgbaston.

Durham resumed on 343-3 and Will Smith went on to make 179 before he finally went in the 108th over when he was caught by Clarke off the bowling of Chris Metters.

Dale Blenkenstein had also been at the crease with Smith and went 39 runs later when he was caught and bowled by Metters after making 128.

Ian Blackwell and Phil Mustard took over batting duties and put together a stand of 163 to take Durham past the five hundred and six hundred mark.

Blackwell was one run away from his century when he was caught by Ian Westwood to give Boyd Rankin a second wicket.

Durham decided that 602-6 was a target that Warwicks were not going to make in their first innings and promptly declared.

It proved a wise decision as although Varun Chopra made 76 from 98 balls, Warwickshire struggled against Steve Harmison and Callum Thorp who took three wickets.

Thorp removed Porterfield for four before Harmison had Westwood caught by Smith without scoring and Mohammad Yousuf also caught first ball. When Borthwick ran out Captain Jim Troughton without scoring, Warwicks were 31-4.

Chopra pushed the score along, briefly assisted by Darren Maddy who made 27 before he too was caught to give Thorp a second wicket.

Chopra went with the score on 126 for Thorp's third wicket and six runs later, Stokes bowled Rikki Clarke who had made five.

Stokes also had Tim Ambrose trapped lbw for thirteen and NaqaashTahir caught by Mustard after making 21, just before the end of a day which saw Warwicks close on 186-9, some 416 runs behind.
