Tommy Voeckler of Direct Energy has won the Tour De Yorkshire.

Dylan Groenwegen led going into the final 196km stage from Middlesbrough to Scarbrough but it was Holohan, Haas, Chetout, Opie, Haller, Cronshaw, Van der Lijke, Farazijn Cullaigh and Wilkinson who were in the early break which was caught with 77kms left.

Team Sky were on the front going through Egton with Peter Kennaugh putting a long turn in on front over the Cote de Grosmont.

Ten riders including the Sky riders and Adam Yates were in a first group on the descent which came about due to the cross winds.

Into Whitby and the intermediate sprint and it was Gianni Moscon of Team Sky who took the three seconds before what was left of the peloton came back together as they headed for the climb at Robin Hood's Bay.

Serge Pauwels of Dimenasion Data, went away on the climb and took the points ahead of Moscon and Nicholas Roche and then opened up a gap ahead of twelve riders.

Nicholas Roche and Adam Yates took over on the Cote de Harwood Dale climb with Roche taking the points on the clibm before Kruijswijk joined them with Voeckler and Turgis trying to bridge.

They did bridge and were 1.01 ahead with 12.7kms left before taking on the final climb of Oliver's Mount.

Roche took the points ahead of Turgis who was the biggest threat to the Irishman on GC but it was Tommy Voeckler who got up to Roche with 3.4kms to go.

Whoever won the race out of these two would take the GC but Yates and Turgis plus Kruijswijk were closing in as they went under the flam rouge.

Voeckler made his move and took both the stage win and the overall victory ahead of Roche in 4.51.57 followed by Yates, Turgis and Kruijswijk.

The top three was how it finished on the podium.

"It was a hard day," said Voeckler. "Very hard with many tussles but I feel victorious. The good thing was that I knew how hard the final kilometres were. I announced my sprint early but with the back wind it was not so bad. I managed to win and win the race over all which I am happy about."
