Warwickshire County Cricket Club got off to a fair start on the opening day of their County Championship match with Lancashire.

With rain staying away, play got under way at Edgbaston with Lancashire winning the toss and deciding to bat.

The visitors had put on fourteen when Chris Wright sent down a delivery which Paul Horton edged behind to Tim Ambrose for the first wicket.

Alex Davies and Andrea Agathangelou, came together and put on seventy two before Jeetan Patal had Agathangelou caught by Varun Chopra after making thirty one.

Ashwell Prince was next in but lasted only 31 balls and twelve runs before he became Patal's next victim when he edge a catch to Will Porterfield at slip.

Davies passed the fifty mark but on reaching 59 from 148 balls and nine fours, he was bowled by Patal to see Lancashire on 120-4 in the 45th over.

Chris Wright bowled the next over and had Jos Buttler caught behind by Tim Ambrose without scoring.

Lancs ploughed on and had made 175 when Steven Croft was caught and bowled by Rikki Clarke.

Thirteen more runs were added before the rain came down and play ended for the day with Lancs on 188-6.
