Warwickshire County Cricket Club made a solid start in the opening day of their County Championship game with Sussex.

At Edgbaston, Sussex won the toss and put Warwicks into bat. Varun Chopra was out early doors after making only four when he was caught behind by Hodd off the bowling of former Warwicks player Jimmy Anyon.

Ian Westwood suffered the same fate when he too was on four, to leave Warwicks on 30-2.

Will Porterfield and Laurie Evans came together and put on 77 before Porterfield who had made 66, became Anyon's third victim when he was caught by Yardy.

Evans went on to make his half century but two runs later, he was trapped lbw by Monty Panesar for 52 and Warwicks at tea were 167-4.

In the final session, Monty Panesar struck twice to remove Troughton (26) and Rikki Clarke (0) as Warwicks closed on 261-6 with Tim Ambrose 44 not out and Chris Woakes 45 not out.
