Andre Greipel has won the opening race of the 2016 Challenge Mallorca series.

The first of four individual races which attracted teams like Team Sky who gave a debut to former World Champion Michal Kwiatkowski, saw a 176.8km race from Trofeo Felanitx - Ses Salines - Campos to Porreres and fifty kilometres into the race, three riders in Domingos Gonçalves, Grischa Janorschke and Eneko Lizarralde had got away.

With 62kms raced, the trio had a lead of three minutes and it was still three minutes, seventeen kilometres later.

The gap went out to 3.30 as the one hundred kilometres raced marker was reached.

The leaders were eventually brought back by Slagter and Stybar and this set up a sprint which saw Andre Greipel win ahead of Sam Bennett and Edvald Boasson-Hagan.
