Gianluca Brambilla Wins Challenge Mallorca Second Race

Gianluca Brambilla has won the second race in the 2016 Challenge Mallorca series.

Today's race in a series of four was from Trofeo Pollenca to Andratx and was over a 153kms course which had one category two climb and two catagory three climbs. 

A group of thirty four riders including Navardauskas, Visconti, Arcas, Amores. Zuazubiskar, Jurado, Rast, Stuyven, Felline, Estevez, Adrian Gonzalez, Txoperena, Mullen, Le Gac, Hugh Carthy, Mas, Madrazo, Konig, Elmiger, Konrad, Bouet, Mühlberger, Edet, Chetout,  Marcel Sieberg, Thomson, Tomlo, Nerz, Mendes, Bilchmann, Riutort, V.Martin, Balykin, Shilov and Ershov formed the first break of the day and they were 1.55 clear after 48kms.

Team Dimension Data were amongst those in the peloton taking a turn on the front and after 63kms, the gap had dropped to a mere thirty seconds.

However, this group of thirty four worked together and they were able to get their advantage back to two minutes with one hundred kilometres raced.

Again, the peloton got their act together and they had knocked a minute off the lead of the escapers as the race went into its final forty kilometres.

The peloton splintered in the chase of the break with some riders able to get across to the front group and this allowed the front group to be caught.

Seven riders formed a new attack before Etixx Quick Step's Gianluca Brambilla.got away on his own and took a thirty second lead with ten kilometres to go.

Chased by a group of 25 riders, Brambilla had a lead of twenty four seconds as the race went into it's final four kilometes.

Gianluca Brambilla was not to be beaten and stayed away to take the victory ahead of Team Sky's Michal Kwiatkowski in second place and Zdenek Stybar third, followed by Benoot, Van Barle, Cancellara, Scott. Thwaites, Valverde, König, Visconti, Hagen, Bouet, Reynes, Terpstra and Herrada.
