Gatto Wins Vuelta a Andalucia Stage Three

Oscar Gatto of TInkoff has won the third stage of the 62nd Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol but Ben Swift who finished second is the new race leader.

Stage three was a 157.9km stage from Monachil to Padul and had Nacer Bouhanni of Cofidis as the new race leader for a stage of four climbs.

Manuele Boaro, Markel Irizar, Preidler, Bert Lindeman, Damiano Caruso, Hugh Carthy, Lammereink, Clayes, Sergey Firsanov formed the first break of the day and did have a thirty eight second lead before being joined by Marcin Mrozek of CCC Sprandi.

Their lead went out to 4.05 before there was a split and the group of escapers went down to seven with now Boaro, Irizar, Lindeman, Caruso, Carthy, Firsanov and Mrozek up front.

With 75kms gone, their lead stood at 3.30 and seventeen kilometres later on the Puerto del Legionario, it was at 2.30.

However, as they headed into Padul, the peloton swept up the escapers.

A lead group formed and Nacer Bouhanni was dropped before Omar Fraile and Dani Navarro attacked with seven kilometres left.

They were caught up and up popped Oscar Gatto of Tinkoff to take the win in 3.51.17 ahead of Ben Swift of Team Sky, followed by Kreider, Wellens and Felline.

Swift's second place was enough to put him in the lead overall.
