Brompton Bicycle, the UK’s largest bike manufacturer, announced today that the 11th Brompton World Championship Final will take place on Saturday 30 July 2016 as part of Prudential RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling.

It will be the second successive year that the Brompton World Championship Final has been part of the Mayor of London’s two-day festival. Last year’s event featured 500+ riders from more than 20 countries racing in front of huge crowds around St James’s Park with a star-studded field that included British cycling stars David Millar and Michael Hutchinson.

The 2016 Brompton World Championship is open to all with places limited to 575. Registration is now open at www.PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk and will close at 17:00 on Friday 12 February or when 1500 entries have been received, whichever is earlier. The entry fee is £40.00. A ballot will be drawn after the closing date and successful riders will be notified of the ballot results by Friday 19 February 2016.

The race begins with a Le Mans-style mad dash to unfold bikes before taking on the 1.3-mile circuit which starts and finishes on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. Sportswear is not permitted and there is a strict No Lycra rule. Mark Emsley was the 2015 champion, storming to the finish in 00:26:45.

There are BWC qualifying events in 12 countries and the fastest male and female from each BWC series event is awarded a place in the World Championship Final in London.

Will Butler-Adams OBE, CEO of Brompton, said, “The Prudential RideLondon Brompton World Championship showcases this unique bike in all its glory. The responsive steering, gears and brakes make it perfect for reaching top speeds. We’re thrilled the Final is again part of Prudential RideLondon in the city where all our bikes are made. This year is going to be special.”

Hugh Brasher, Event Director for Prudential RideLondon, added: “The Brompton World Championship Final is a great addition to Prudential RideLondon. The incredible range of costumes and the excitement of the race was a huge hit with spectators in 2015 and we’re delighted that the event will be part of the festival again in 2016.”
