Warwickshire County Cricket Club fought back after a poor start on the second day of their County Championship game with Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Warwicks resumed on 13-1 and struggled in the opening hour, losing the wickets of Westwood (15), overnight watchman Tahir (4) and Jon Trott (0).

This left Warwicks on 28-4 but Ian Bell and Jim Troughton came to the crease and the pair put on 110 for the fifth wicket before Bell was out for 47.

Stratford's Troughton retired hurt on 44 and was replaced by Tim Ambrose who only added nine runs. At the other end, Rikki Clarke, hit Warwicks first six of the match in a knock of 43 before he was the seventh player out.

At tea, Warwicks were 238-7. When Neil Carter was run out early in the final session of the day, Troughton came back but did not add to his score before he was caught by Horton.

Chris Woakes batted bravely making thirty not out but with Warwicks having passed Lancashire's first innings total of 253 by one run, Tahir was caught by Moore.

In their second innings, Smith was out for seven, edging a catch to Tim Ambrose off the bowling of Neil Carter and Horton went for 26 to give Woakes a wicket as Lancashire closed on 84-2.
