Another Vuelta A Burgos Stage Win For Danny Van Poppel

Danny Van Poppel of Team Sky has won the third stage of the Vuelta a Burgos to add to his victory on stage one.

Stage three from Valle de Sedano to Villarcayo saw Hoekstra, Yanto Barker of One Pro Cycling, Berlato, Del Pino and Lizarralde in an early break which was 2.49 clear after 29kms and 2.17 ahead after 56kms with the peloton led by Astana who had won the Team Time Trial and had Dmitriy Gruzdev in the leader's jersey.

At speeds of 47kmh for the first hour, Hoekstra took the first sprint at Montejo de Bricia and then the MV de Arija climb as their lead went back out to 2.52.

Hoekstra took the next climb - the Alto de Retuerta, which was a category three climb, which caused a break in the lead group with only Hoekstra, Del Pino and Berlato pushing on with a lead of 2:28.

The peloton had had enough and brought them back with 27kms and Brambilla, Scarponi, Cataldo and R.Fernandez took over on the front before they too were brought back sixteen kilometres later.

The race finished in a sprint and it was Danny Van Poppel of Team Sky who took the win in 4.35.37 ahead of Jempy Drucker of BMC and Gianni Meersman.

Dmitriy Gruzdev of Astana continues to lead the race.
