Andre Greipel of Lotto Soudal took the victory on stage twelve of the Giro D'Italia.

Stage twelve was a pan flat 182km stage from Noale to Bibione which started with Daniel Oss of BMC striking out on his own and getting 2.48 of the peloton with Mirco Maestri (Bardiani) chasing him.

Maestri managed to catch Oss and the pair got four minutes clear. However, the peloton were not happy and soon had them pegged back at 2.18 with 131kms to go in the pouring rain.

With 63kms to go, the rain had stopped as the gap steadied around the two minutes mark before dropping to 34 seconds with thirty kilometres left.

Oss and Maestri were caught with 22kms left

The wet course meant that that race organisers RCS Sport decided to take the time of the peloton at the first passage of the line on the final circuit with no bonus times on the finish line after the end of two 8km circuits around Bibione.

Lotto Soudal working for Andre Greipel before he quit the race were on the front with five kilometres remaining.

There was a Nippo-Vini Fantini rider who went down with 2.5kms left but Lotto Soudal were still on the front of a small group and they brought up Andre Greipel to take win in 4.16.00 which was his third in the race ahead of Caleb Ewen and Nizzolo, followed by Porsev,  Modolo, Hofland, Savitskiy, Haussler, Zabel and Colbrelli.

Bob Jungels keeps his lead in the race.
