Double centuries in 50 over cricket do not come around that often so congratulations to Ian Cheery or Hampton and Solihull 2nds who achieved that feat in their win against Ansley Sports, S Shakil also making 100 in that match in a total of 328 for 1.
Although it seems only a few weeks since we started the lower divisions are now only 3 weeks to completion, with Division 4 a 2 horse race between Walmley 3rds and Wolvey. Walmley closed the gap by 4 points on Saturday as although both teams won Wolvey won the toss and chased down 86 from Warwick in a potentially difficult game as if 3rd placed Warwick had won they may well have converted the 2 horse race to 3. As it stands it would take a major upset to catch the top 2. Walmley made no mistake having scored 224 all out in dismissing Colycroft for 173. In Division 5 Aston Manor and Attock lead the way. Aston Manor defeated Nuneaton and then received a welcome hand fropm Bablake CC 3rds who soundly beat Attock who failed to gain a single point for there effort of 89 all out which was overturned for the loss of just 2 wickets. Division 6 may well go the way of Thimblemill, although there is a long way to go and Copsewood and Continental Star are well in the mix. Thimblemill and Continental Star settled for the right end of a draw and 16 points this week, Whilst Copsewood jumped Continental Star into second with a win a bottom Club Newbold. This is far from over with the top 2 due to meet on the 23rd August p>At the top of the WCL, Bedworth’s stutters in the last few weeks came to an end but only just as in the local derby match against Nuneaton CC they made 255 for 7, Sam Smart 73 and James Taplin 5 for 81. Their local rivals made a valiant attempt to win the match but fell 6 down at 220, Russell Rice (61) and Kyle Taylor (51) getting them close, but the bowling of Sam Smart with 4 for 66 ending up the decisive factor. Aston Manor however will now take some catching, Solihull Blossomfield this week’s victims batting second, whilst Olton’s bid to get on terms with the top 2 ground to a halt at Handsworth.
All eyes next weekend in the WCL will be at Aston Manor when they host Bedworth knowing a win will make it very likely they will regain their BDPCL place at the first time of asking.
