Warwickshire County Cricket Club were beaten by 152 runs by Essex in a Royal London Cup tie.

At Chelmsford, Warwicks won the toss and put Essex into bat. It did not look a good decision as Mark Pettini and Tom Westly put on 191 before Westly was trapped lbw by Jeetan Patal after making 108 runs from 113 balls.

Ravi Bopara came in and added 39 before he was bowled by Chris Woakes and Jesse Ryder hit fifteen before being caught by Patal to give a wicket to Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Pettini eventually went for 126 when he was caught by Will Porterfield to give Hannon Dalby a second wicket which became a third when he had Napier caught by Patal for five.

Essex completed their fifty overs with the score on 320-5, setting Warwicks 321 to win.

Warwicks were in trouble straight away with Varun Chopra out first ball caught and bowled by Reece Topley who went on to take four wickets.

Will Porterfield went for ten, Tim Ambrose for three, Ricky Clarke for 17 and Laurie Evans for ten to leave Warwicks on 89-5.

Jon Trott top-scored with 51 from 78 balls but he was caught by Westly before Woakes went for 22, Javid for 33, Patal for six and when Boyd Rankin was bowled by Topley, for six, Warwicks were all out for 168 and went down to a 152 run defeat.
