Christian Vandevale won the US Pro Tour Challenge today.

The final stage was a nine mile time trial around Denver and Taylor Phinney set the early fastest time of 17.25 at an average speed of 32.7mph.

There were huge cheers as seventeen Tour De France competitor George Hincapie in his final ever race finished over a minute down, waving as he crossed the finished line.

His finish was not as spectacular however, as Freddie Lacomb who lost his bike on the final turn. He flew into the barriers whilst his biike went over the top.

Tom Danielson came in at 17.54 before the final three of Teejay van Garderen, Christian Vandevalde and race leader Levi Leipheimer came down the ramp with any of the three capable of winning the race overall.

Van Garderen came in at 17.44.31, Vandevalde came in at 17.35.38, so that meant Leipheimer had to come home quicker than 17.49 in order to win the race.

However, the American came in 18.08 meaning that Garmin's Christian Vandevalde won the US Pro Challenge ahead of van Garderen and Leipheimer with Taylor Phinney winning the final time trial..
