Nelson Oliveira (Lampre-Merida has won the time trial at the Portuguse National Championships.

On a 36km course in Braga, Katusha's Tiago Machado finished second four seconds behind Oliveria with José Mendes (Bora - Argon 18), forty seven down in third place.

Machado said:  "I was really keen on winning the title but unfortunately I missed it by 4 seconds.

"It is like that. It was difficult during the race as we had no idea of intermediate times of competitors, but the result is ok. Thus, again the silver medal, just as in 2008.

"This is just my 3rd national TT championship. In 2009 I won, so every time on the podium in the pro category is not so bad. Now I will recover a bit for the road race. I have no teammates over here but also in the past years that was the case and I finished twice on the podium as well."

Jonatan Castroviejo of Movistar has won the time trial in the Spanish National Champions.

Castroviejo completed the 49.115km course in Caceres with a time of 56.35. Second was his team mate Gorka izzagire and third was another team mate in Jesus Herada.

"An easy win? Well, you had better not say that," said Castroviejo.

"I completely lost all my pace halfway through the race and even thought of withdrawing after 15kms, I had no energy, probably because of the heat.

"Fortunately, my body more or less responded again, I got back to feeling better minute by minute and I also realised that my rivals weren't doing well either."
