Thor Hushovd is to leave the BMC cycling team at the end of the season.

The Norwegian, who joined BMC in 2012, has been told in a telephone call that he will not be offered a new contract for the 2015 season and can look for another team.

According to Norwegian television station TV2, Hushovd is quoted as saying: "It's strange to receive a phone call like that. I'm used to teams wanting me and then suddenly they tell me they're no longer interested in me. It's clear that it's a disappointment.

"At the same time, I realise that I haven't delivered the goods for the team for three years now, so it's not a surprise."

There has already been some interest in the 2010 World Road Race champion, who has also riden for the Credit Agricole, Cervelo Test Team and Garmin with IAM Cycling being tipped to be amongst the fore-runners.
