Luis Leon Sanchez won the third stage of the Tour Of Romandie this afternoon.
A stage from La Neuveville to Charmey which was 157.6kms long, Gatis Smukulis (Katusha), Leigh Howard (GreenEdge), Anders Lund (Saxo Bank), Tosh Van der Sande (Lotto-Belisol) and Irish Champion Matthew Brammeier (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) escaped only to be chased down with six kilometres to go.
Team Sky working for race leader Bradley Wiggins shut down the attacks but could not stop Luis Leon Sanchez from winning the stage and moving to within a second of Wiggins.
Gianni Meersman (Lotto Belisol Team) was second with Paolo Tiralongo (Astana Pro Team) third. Wiggins finished 22nd.
