Rui Costa snatched a dramatic victory to win the Tour De Suisse.

Tony Martin was in the leaders jersey going into the final 157km stage from Martigny to Saas-Fee which started without Fabian Cancellera who was suffering from the effects of a bee sting, during the time trial.

Sixteen riders had got away but that was down to Ruben Plaza (Movistar), Aliaksandr Kuchynski (Katusha), Christian Knees (Team Sky), Silvan Dillier (BMC), Maniuele Boaro (Tinkoff-Saxo), Stef Clement (Belkin),  Sep Vanmarcke (Belkin), Andre Cardoso (Garmin-Sharp), Johann Tschopp (IAM Cycling) and Jeremy Roy (FDJ.fr) with a hundred kilometres left.

Being only twenty seconds clear, they were soon joined by Arnold Jeannesson (FDJ.fr), Sander Armee (Lotto Belisol), Danilo Wyss, Steve Morabito (BMC), Oliver Zaugg (Tinkoff-Saxo), Andy Schleck (Trek Factory Racing) and Georg Preidler (Giant-Shimano) and had a lead of 1.25 at the half way point in the stage.

As the riders attacked each other on the climb, Tony Martin was trying to get to the breakaway group but was struggling to do so and when Matthias Frank (IAM Cycling), Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) and Bauke Mollema (Belkin) jumped away, Martin's chances of taking overall victory in this race were becoming more and more unlikely on the 20km climb to the finsh.

Costa was now the virtual leader on the road and with 24kms left, he Frank and Mollema had a 2.20 lead over the yellow jersey group.

Tony Martin started to ride a time trial as nine riders including six who had caught up to Frank, Costa and Mollema. But inside the final five kilometres and Rui Costa kicked on, taking a ten second lead into the final kilometre and the 2013 World Road Race Champion and Lampre rider took the win in 4.00.00, fourteen seconds ahead of Bauke Mollema, and twenty seconds ahead of Mathias Frank.

That victory was enough to give Costa, who celebrated with his arms aloft, the overal win with a thirty three second victory over Mathias Frank, fifty seconds over Bauke Mollema and seventy three seconds of Tony Martin of Omega Pharma Quick Step.
