Rodriquez Wins Basque Country Fourth Stage

Katusha's Joaquin Rodriquez has won the fourth stage of the Basque County.

Stage four was a 162.2kms stage from Zumarrga to Eibar, which featured another six climbs and saw Agnoli, Txurruka and Zaugg get in the early break.

That was soon neutralised by the peloton which included race leader Serge Henao of Team Sky and a break of fourteen was established after the peloton had gone over the the category two Alto de Asentzio. 

In that break was Rohan Dennis, Leuwe Westra, Golas, Pieter Weening, Bob Jungels, Phillipe Gilbert, Maxine Monfort, Bono, Tom Danielson, Hardy, Sorensen, Fabio Felline and Bargot.but it was not allowed to succeed and was brought back by the sixty kilometres gone mark.

Etixx Quick Step'sTony Martin, Tom Danielson (Cannondale-Garmin), Peio Bilbao (Caja Rural) and Hardy of Cofidis then broke away, taking a lead of 1.15, which stood at 1.38 with 56.7kms left.

Jerome Coppell of IAM Cycling crashed before Martin, who was deducted a minute for holding onto his team car for too long, took the Izuara climbs points and worked to increase the gap to 2.35 with forty eight kilometres left.

Martin and Danielson left the other three to it and went away taking the Lekoigizana climb with a lead of 1.45 and less than thirty kilometres to race.

Vicioso of Katusha crashed into the back of his own team car whilst up the front, Martin and Danielson had a lead of 1.31.

On a cloudy day, the pace from the peloton rose again and ghe gap fell to 42 seconds with twenty one kilometres left.

Danielson took the points on category two Urkaregi climb before they headed to Arrate.

The duo were caught with six kilometres left and Zakarin of Katusha took to the front with a lead of fourteen seconds on the final climb.

The race leader Serge Henao went after him with just over four kilometres to go as groups started to form all the way down the road.

Henao joined Zakarin, who was ten seconds down on GC with 3.4kms to go,

Simon Yates of Orica GreenEdge was in the group which was five seconds behind the front two who were not working together.

This chasing group of twelve riders caught Henao and Zakarin with 1.8kms to go.

Under the flam rouge and Henao kicked off again before Rodriquez came up and took the win in 4.05.10 ahead of Mollema, Yates, Jon Izagirre, Henao and Scarponi.

Serge Henao continues to lead the race ahead of a 155km stage from Eibar to Aia.
