Cofidis' Adrien Petit has won the Prologue at the 75th Tour De Luxembourg.

The opening stage was a 2.667km prologue around Luxembourg City and saw Krisztain Lovassy of the Differdange-Losch team first down the ramp.

Cyril Lemoine of Cofidis set an early time to beat of 4.04, three seconds quicker than Lotto Soudal's Andre Greipel who is favourite for the sprint stages.

Europcar's Jimmy Engoulvent, who has won this prologue on four occasions, then finished in 4.02.94 to take over the lead before Cofidis' Adrien Petit completed the course in 3.58 at an average speed of  40.387km/h.

The race organisers than announced that Ireland's sole representative in the race Matt Brammeier of MTN Qhubeka had set a new fastest time of 3.52. However, it was later changed to the correct time and Petit took the victory with a three second lead over Europcar's Bryan Coquard and a four second lead over Arnaud Gérard of the Bretagne – Séché Environnement team.

A disappointed Brammeier tweeted: "3:52 with 1 cleat missing..... I wish... I'm guessing it was 4:52 after I walked the last km... What a waste of a day. On to the next one..."
