Moreno Wins Ruta Del Sol Time Trial

Javier Moreno of Movistar has won the 61st Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol time trial.

Stage 1B was an 8.2km time trial which saw the riders minus Ken Van Bilsen and Alex Geniez of FDJ, plus Louis Vervaeke hot-footing it from the finish of Stage 1A to Coria del Río where this time trial of seventeen turns started and finished.

The riders were pretty much given advance notice to what time they would be starting off in thirty second intervals and the major change was Pim Lithgart who had won Stage 1A and was now to be the last man down the ramp instead of three from the start.

Danilo Napolitano was first down the ramp but was caught by Alexsejs Saramotins who set the time to beat of 10.19.

Nicholas Roche of Team Sky, was on the road and caught his thirty second man to finish in 10.27.

Jerome Pinaut finished in 10.02 to take over the lead with Tim Wellens going second thanks to a time of 10.06. But Jerome Coppel was the first to break the ten minute mark with a 9.55 before Javier Moreno of Movistar finished in 9.51.99.

At 5.36 local time, Chris Froome went down the ramp, shortly followed by Alberto Contador. Froome posted a time of 10.05.2, fourteen seconds down on Moreno whilst Contador caught his minute man and finished in 9.57.5 to go fourth.

Pim Ligthart went down the ramp at 17.52 and finished in 10.37 for a placing of 64th meaning that Javier Moreno was the winner.

Alberto Contador is the new leader of the race.
