Lance Armstrong has been charged with failing to report an accident and exceeding the safe speed limit, according to The Aspen Daily News.

The disgraced cyclist is alleged to have hit two parked cars in Aspen whilst driving his GMC Yukon coming home from an Aspen Art Museum party after allegedly having "a little bit to drink" and having agreed to let his girlfriend Anna Hansen take the blame.

Armstrong has been charged with failing to report an accident and exceeding the safe speed for the conditions, after the charges were transfered back to the Texan after police did some digging.

Speaking to police, Hansen, who has not been charged with making a false report, said: “We’ve had our family name smeared over every paper in the world in the last couple of years and honestly, I’ve got teenagers, I just wanted to protect my family.

“I thought, gosh, Anna Hansen hit some cars, it’s not going to show up in the papers, but Lance Armstrong hit some cars, it’s going to be a national story.”

When asked if Armstrong was drunk, Hansen said to police: “He was not intoxicated, and that was um, you know, I’m sorry I lied to you that morning but I was trying to make [it] sound like, well, I was driving because that was, just, I don’t know … I was just trying to make something up at that time.”

Armstrong has hired Denver attorney Pamela Mackey, when he's due in court on March 17th.
