Sir Chris Hoy won the Keirin final at the UCI World Track Championships second day in Manchester tonight.

Hoy sprinted to the final and after the first final heat had to be abandoned after the derny bike packed up due to the driver not switching the fuel on.

When the race did start, Hoy left it until the final lap to make his move and he went clear as four of the six riders were sent crashing. Hoy cruised round with Niblett of Australia in second.

The crowd were cheering as Dawkins of New Zealand carried his bike over the line to get third before collapsing in a heap, Everyone thought he had the bronze medal but Kamil Kuczunski of Poland who had got back on his bike and finished before Dawkins and the Spaniard Peratla who ran down the side of the track before remembering he had to take his bike with him in order to record a finish, was adjudged to be the bronze medal holder.

Dawkins initially received a DNF whilst Peralta was relegated. Then another change saw the Malaysian Wang, who had also fallen, got a large wooden splinter in his calf and was screaming for medical attention, given the bronze medal and Dawkins a fifth place.

In the Bronze medal for the Women's Sprint, Victoria Pendleton took the medal with a two race win over Panarina.
