First Race of The Season For Chris Froome

2013 Tour De France winner Chris Froome competes in his first race of the season today.

Froome has been named in the Team Sky team for the Ruta Del Sol or Vuelta a Andalucia, which has been a UCI 2.1-ranked event since 2005, a race which also sees Nicholas Roche make his debut for the British team after his move from Tinkoff Saxo.

Also in the Team Sky team are Peter Kennaugh, Vasil Kiryienka, Mikel Nieve, Kanstantsin Siutsou and Xabier Zandio.The five day race starts with two stages on Wednesday. Stage 1A is a 118.3km stage from La Rabida to Hinojos with Stage 1B, an 8.2km individual time trial with a number of tight corners, which starts and finishes in Coria del Rio.

Stage 2 is 191.7kms long and is from Utrera to Lucena. The stage features a category three climb -  Alto de la Primera Crux, which come with six kilometres to go.

The Third Stage on Friday is from Motril and finishes 157.6kms later on the Alto de Hazallanas (Guejar Sierra) which has two sections where the average gradient is 18% on a 8.7km ramp.

The penultimate Stage 5 sees the second mountain top finish this time at Alto de las Allanadas (La Guardia de Jaen) after a 199.8km stage from Maracena. The climb might be only 4.4kms long but it is a climb with average gradients of 20%.

The final stage will see those riders left in the race with an uphill sprint finish at Alhaurin de la Torre after a 169.8km stage from Montilla.
