Rohan Dennis of BMC has set a new World Hour Record.

The Australian chose the Swiss National Velodrome in Grenchen for his attempt on the record held by IAM Cycling's Mathias Brandle and was quicker for the first forty five minutes.

Although his pace dropped slightly, the BMC rider kept going and beat Brandle's record of 51.852km, going 639 metres further and setting a new distance of 52.491 kilometres.

A delighted Dennis said: “I’m pretty tired but really, really proud. With BMC , they made it easy. The whole week leading into this, since Tour Down Under, was very stressless. There was no pressure and everything went perfectly. It almost feels too easy, but obviously, it wasn’t.

“There was a lot of pain. I couldn’t really enjoy it too much to be honest. I knew it was 208 laps and when I went past 208 it was just go as hard as you can. Hopefully that record stands for a little while.”
