Following his heavy fall on Stage 4 of the Tour Down Under, Team Giant Alpecin's Lawson Craddock (USA) has been able to return home to Texas, USA, where he will recover in the coming weeks.

Craddock came down hard during the stage from Glenelg to Mt Barker, and was immediately aware of his injuries, not returning to the bike to finish the stage. He was later to find out that he had fractures to his sternum, wrist and a rib.

After extensive medical checks from both hospital staff in Adelaide and the team's medical experts, Craddock was discharged before heading to stay with teammate Koen De Kort (NED) in Australia, awaiting his flight back home to the USA. The team's medical experts are now in contact with his local practitioners and physiotherapists to keep a track of his progress.

“I’m doing a bit better," confirmed Craddock from his home in Texas. "It has been a long couple of days in and out of the doctor’s office but things are coming together. The good thing is that surgery isn’t necessary which is a huge bonus. I’ve got a cast on my wrist to stabilise it now and the team's medical staff are keeping track of this.

"The longer issue is the sternum, which will take about six-weeks to fully heal, but hopefully the pain will subside in the coming weeks. From there I should be OK to get on the rollers to keep the legs turning. So given the situation it has been good news.”

The injuries sustained are a set-back for the twenty two year old, but with a long season ahead and a good plan for recovery and rehabilitation together with the performance team he will be back fighting at his best in 2015.
